Maria Alexiou studied Law in Athens, Greece and specialized in human rights and civil liberties in international and European law. She is member of the Athens Law Bar and Chair of the Board of Directors of CSR Hellas, a non- profit-making business association representing more than150 companies since 2012 (www.csrhellas.org). She is also member of the Board of Directors of CSR Europe since 2018, and Vice-Chair responsible for EU Affairs and Market (www.csrweurope.org). In 2020, joined voluntarily EFRAG Sustainability Lab and the Project Task Force that studied best reporting practices towards sustainable business models and linkages with risks and opportunities (www.efrag.org). Currently member of EFRAG Secretariat team working on the development of European Sustainability Reporting Standards for Listed SMEs and Voluntary Standards in alignment with EU CSRD.
She also sits at the Advisory Board of HIGGS (2017, www.higgs.org) supporting programs to empower civil society and social entrepreneurs in Greece and Organization Earth (www.organizationearth.org) facilitating and encouraging capacity building and collaboration, stakeholder and civil society dialogue and empowerment.
